Boxing
History
Boxing origins can be traced all the way back to 4000 B.C. and was practised by the soldiers of the Pharaohs. Boxing was also an event in the Ancient Greek Olympic Games since 688 B.C. Australian boxers have competed in Olympics since 1908. McKinley Brothers fi rst started boxing at the Blacktown Police Citizens Club about 25 years ago and now provide excellent training and mentoring for the next generation.
Can anyone box?
Boxing in Blacktown City started approximately 30 years ago and issupported at both Blacktown and Mt Druitt Police Citizens Youth Clubs. Boxing is a great form of exercise and is open to both males and females from 12 years of age and over. Boxing is an ideal way to keep fi t and healthy; it develops hand and eye coordination, improves fi tness, improves your ability to think under pressure, and teaches discipline and self respect. The boxing gym is highly supervised with boxers having protective equipment. Boxing can be a great work out. It is completely optional for full contact boxing such as tournaments. Blacktown PCYC currently boast three NSW amateur champions.
