High School Sports
History
Sporting activites play a prominent role in school life since it develops students' ability to work in teams, mateship, physical fi tness and mental alertness. The Blacktown City Centenary Games will bring together schools from both the public and private schools to compete in a Year 7 challenge in Soccer and Netball. The event is being facilitated by the premier sporting school in the Blacktown City region, Hills Sports High School. The Hills Sports High School was established in 2003 by John Watkins, NSW Minister for Education and Training, to cater for the vast wealth of sporting talent in Sydney's west and northwest. The Hills Sports High has enjoyed a mercurial rise to sporting dominance in its very short history. In only two years of operation, Hills Sports has produced an Olympian (Sally Shipard-the youngest soccer player ever selected to represent Australia at senior level and the only Australian ever to be named in a FIFA World XI).
